Malaysia government had launched the Malaysia Smart City
Framework, a guidelines for local governments all across the country to develop
cities into smart cities.
A smart city is a city that incorporated with IoTs (Internet
of Things) that enhance the quality and performance of urban services.
Speaking at a press conference, the Minister of Housing and
Local Government Ministry, Zuraida Kamaruddin said five pilot cities will be upgraded
into smart cities, and they are Kulim, Kuala Lumper, Johor Baru, Kota Kinabalu
and Kuching.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir said in a video recording in
the opening ceremony of Cities 4.0 Conference and Exhibition 2019, that:
“We
envision smart cities that are integrated with sustainable technologies in the
cities’ services such as 5G connectivity, cashless community, autonomous public
transport, drone delivery, energy-efficient buildings, smart treatment of water
and waste management and others, that can improve the public safety and the
quality of life of our citizens,“
He also highlighted that this
projects of turning Malaysia into smart cities would be one of the emphasis
part in the upcoming 12th Malaysian Plan.
